Over the last few months we have been discussing COVID-19 and all the challenges and uncertainty it has brought our lives. From increased mental health needs to postponed routine doctor’s appointments and family gatherings, we have all been doing our part to stay safe and healthy. We continue to be advised that practicing social distancing, good hand washing and wearing a mask when out in public are the best ways to protect ourselves from the virus. While all of these steps are necessary to protect ourselves, loved ones, and those who fall into the vulnerable population group, we must not ignore our other health issues.
A recent study showed that half of the public admitted to postponing or canceling doctor’s appointments or testing because of fear of COVID-19 with over 10% of people saying their medical issue had become worse but they were afraid of contracting the virus. While fear and anxiety are normal during these uncertain times, did you know that if you receive appropriate care and take care of your chronic health issues such as high blood pressure or diabetes it can reduce the risk of severe COVID-19? That’s why it’s important not to ignore symptoms related to your health. Below is a list of some health symptoms you should not ignore and should seek immediate attention for.
