RIBBON CUTTING ON NEW PARISH NURSE OFFICE SPACE

On October 16, 2016 the Parish Nurse Ministry of Saint Simon Stock parish cut the ribbon on their new office space. The space will be used by the parish nurses for small classes, health counseling and education. The nurses will be able to see parishioners and collaborate with one another in this new office located at the rear of the rectory. The space was renovated as a group project by the parish nurses with the help of the Knights of Columbus. Everyone donated their time and talent, cleaning, painting and organizing. There are a few special treasures to look for; the name plate, as you walk in, came from the former convent and reads “Mount Carmel Mercy House” which truly speaks to the spirit of the Parish Nurse ministry and the Sisters of Mercy, who served the parish for many years. Sr. Agnes Heffernan was even on hand to cut the ribbon. A prayer shawl was donated by a cancer survivor, who wanted to share the gift given him in his time of need. All these things and so much more have come together for the health and healing of the parish and community. Saint Marianne Cope, who accepted the challenge of going out to the missions in Molokai and bringing hope and healing to the lepers there, is the patron of these parish nurses. The joy of service was evident in the smiles and camaraderie between the nurses and members of the faith community present for this grand occasion.
