St. Simon Stock’s Senior Ministry hosts a health presentation on “Aging Eyes”

With the summer officially over, St. Simon Stock’s Senior Ministry is now back to their regular schedule of meeting every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and they are ready to learn how to stay healthier and safer as they age at home.  For their September Health Presentation, Center Director, Barbara Hansen invited VITALity to give a talk on “Aging Eyes”.   VITALity’s Director of Care Coordination and Consultation, Mimi Schaible, spoke on the topic and included information on some symptoms of eye disease, how to protect your eyesight as you age, and what to do if you think you are having a problem.  The group had lots of questions and some even shared advice from their own personal experiences with eye care.  As the presentation explained, some diminishing of eyesight due to aging is normal however there are some eye diseases that can be prevented or improved with proper care.  The best advice is to have an annual eye exam by an ophthalmologist or optometrist so problems can be detected and treated before your vision is impaired.  At the presentation’s end, packets of information on eye care and the VITALity Help Line phone number were handed out to members in case anyone might need some assistance with accessing proper care.  The group was appreciative of Mimi’s talk and invited her back for more healthcare presentations to keep them informed, healthy and safe at home.
