Nearly five dozen faithful gathered November 18 for the annual Healing Mass of Hope, Thanksgiving, and Remembrance, which honors loved ones lost to cancer as well as survivors and those currently in treatment. “Those who have survived this battle come to offer Thanksgiving – like the one leper who returned to Christ and proclaimed his thanks for healing,” Deacon Jerry Jablonowski, executive director of VITALity Catholic Healthcare Services of the Diocese of Camden, prayed during the Mass, which was celebrated at Christ Our Light Church, Cherry Hill. “We [also] gather tonight as family and friends of those who have died from cancer, praying for their eternal rest with God and seeking our own spiritual and emotional healing from the loss of someone we loved so dearly.”

During the Mass, about 20 people from across the Diocese received the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. In addition, some wrote the names of loved ones on remembrance cards that were brought up during the offertory. The Mass was celebrated by Father John Picinic, above, parish pastor of The Catholic Community of Christ Our Light, and Father Christopher Myers, parochial vicar as well as Father Hugh Bradley and Father Varghese Srambickal, VC.
