PARISH NURSES IN THE CAMDEN DIOCESE

On Thursday, April 21st, Vitality’s Director of Parish Nursing, Mary Anne Serra, RN, held the second of two meetings for Parish Nurse Coordinators in the Camden Diocese.  The first meeting was held for the coordinators of parishes in the southern regions of the Diocese and the second covered the northern end.

The purpose of the meeting was to gather the coordinators together as a group to share their experiences and challenges and to meet the new director.  The Parish Nurse Ministry is now part of the new Diocesan healthcare program, launched in December, VITALity Catholic Healthcare Services, along with Care Coordination and Consultation, the Ministry With the Deaf, Hospital Chaplaincy, the Ministry with Persons with Disabilities, and many others.

As Parish Nurses, these dedicated volunteers provide a vital service to their parishes. They advocate for safety, partner with other parish and township groups to fund safety equipment such as AEDs and first aid kits, and they provide education through health screenings, participation at parish events and  providing speakers on specific health topics.
